THE ROYAL COLLECTION TRUST

New exhibitions in Buckingham Palace

The Queen’s Year, 1 August - 28 September 2010:
The special exhibition at the Summer Opening of Buckingham Palace in 2010 will give visitors a lively insight into the principal national and ceremonial events in the royal year.
The Queen’s Year will include displays of ceremonial robes, gifts, uniforms, dresses and jewellery, as well as archive photography and film to evoke the many and varied aspects of the sovereign’s work.
The exhibition will illustrate the pageantry, tradition and ceremony of the State Opening of Parliament, the historic Garter Day ceremony at Windsor Castle and Trooping the Colour, as well as investitures, garden parties and State Visits.

Victoria & Albert: Art & Love, 19 March – 31 October 2010:
This new exhibition in the Queens Gallery, is the first exhibition ever to focus on Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s shared enthusiasm for art.
Bringing together over 400 items from the Royal Collection, this wide-ranging exhibition challenges the popular image of Victoria – the melancholy widow of 40 years – and reveals her as a passionate and open-minded young woman.

WARWICK CASTLE

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY – WARWICK CASTLE LIFTS THE LID ON THE ULTIMATE PARTY

Warwick Castle has spilt the naughty secrets of its colourful past with the relaunch of the ultimate in pleasure-seeking house parties: The Royal Weekend Party – Secret Lives.
The Royal Weekend Party, Warwick Castle’s longest running attraction has undergone a revamp to bring to life the forbidden passions, drunken debauchery and royal bed-hopping of the most scandalous periods in the Castle’s history.
The new experience transports guests back to June 1898 and to the weekend party of the Marlborough House Set, and seeks to unravel the sex, scandal and secrets of the Victorian elite, hosted by Castle beauty, Daisy, Countess of Warwick, who, it would seem, isn’t as pure as her alabaster skin would indicate.
Guests will be introduced to the party by Warwick Castle’s chief butler and will meet Lady Curzon, a fellow guest and good friend to the Countess.
Visitors will then tour the private chambers of the Prince of Wales and sees Daisy’s own quarters, where she changed into her most provocative outfits designed to seduced her lovers.
The Castle’s loose-lipped servants are dotted around the house, spilling the beans on all the scandals of the day.
The new tour aims to uncover the truth on Victorian aristocratic life and is based on true accounts and historical facts recorded at the time, including Daisy’s own personal diary.
Sue Kemp, general manager of Warwick Castle, said: “People think of the Victorians as prim and proper but amongst the aristocracy at least, nothing could have been further from the truth. On the surface, their ‘gentile’ weekend parties were drug and alcohol fuelled sessions with adultery rife. “People will be shocked by what they see and hear – but we are merely reporting historical fact based on reports that have emerged over more recent years.”
The new Royal Weekend Party – Secret Lives attraction is now open.

Two of the world’s leading entertainment brands - Madame Tussauds, part of the Merlin Entertainments Group, and Marvel Entertainment, LLC - have announced they have joined forces to create a unique new visitor experience at the leading London attraction.
Scheduled to open in early summer 2010, “Marvel Super Heroes 4D” will bring to life some of the world’s best loved Super Heroes through a mix of 4D animation, interactive themed areas and startlingly realistic Madame Tussauds wax figures.
Atmospheric sets will conjure up the high-tech Super Hero world of S.H.I.E.L.D (Supreme Headquarters International Espionage Law-enforcement Division) and guests will be able to get up close to wax figures of six of Marvel’s most famous names – Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Wolverine, Nick Fury and The Invisible Woman.
There will also be the chance for the public to “turn hero” themselves in a series of interactive experiences including walking on the ceiling with Spider-Man and stepping into Iron Man’s chest shield.
Taking up 900 sq metres over three floors the experience will culminate in a new animated 4D ‘short’ cinema presentation from world leaders in CGI feature films and 4D attractions, Threshold Animation Studios.
Complete with high impact special effects the eight minute presentation, screened in Madame Tussauds’ famous domed auditorium, will be a full surround, totally immersive 360º presentation.
The story, scripted by Threshold President Joshua Wexler and Robert Henry, unites a crack team of Super Heroes including Hulk, Spider-Man and Captain America battling against one of Marvel’s most villainous baddies in an all new adventure.
Marvel Super Heroes 4D is not included in standard trade tickets for Madame Tussauds London.
